BMO has acquired the naming rights to the new National Soccer Stadium on the grounds of Exhibition Place in Toronto. Known as BMO Field (Canada's first soccer-specific stadium), the stadium will play host to Toronto Football Club, Canada's first Major League Soccer (MLS) team. In addition to naming rights, the bank is also a major sponsor of the Toronto FC.
In addition, BMO Field will host the FIFA under-20 World Cup of Soccer in spring 2007, an event that some argue is the second biggest soccer event after the World Cup. Canada's national soccer teams will also play at BMO Field.
At a national level, BMO has partnered with the Canadian Soccer Association. As part of this new partnership, BMO will sponsor the National Championships as well all National Teams. At a local level, BMO is supporting grassroots soccer which includes the sponsorship of 150 youth soccer teams across Canada as well as travelling soccer events that visit hundreds of communities across the country every year.
BMO is also a key sponsor of Play Soccer, a mobile interactive soccer festival that brings with it games, competitions, contests, and live entertainment to youth and parents across Ontario. BMO will have a designated zone at each stop.
At a grassroots level, BMO has a premier partnership with the Vancouver Whitecaps Football (Soccer) Club. BMO Bank of Montreal is attached to all the Youth Programs associated with the Whitecaps, which means that BMO is constantly supporting young up-and-coming Canadian soccer players as they improve and master their skills.
Soccer represents a great opportunity for BMO to support customers and communities across Canada, and is a sport that appeals to Canadians across the country.
