Increase Your Payment Frequency

"Accelerating" your mortgage payments is a good way to shorten the total mortgage repayment period.

For example, if you choose accelerated weekly payments, your weekly payment is calculated as a monthly payment divided by four. Over a year, that is equivalent to adding an additional monthly payment.

Example: $100,000 mortgage @ 8% per annum* and 25 year amortization**

  Monthly Weekly Accelerated Weekly
Payments $763.21 $175.08 $190.80
Mortgage repaid 25 years 25 years 19 years, 10 months
Total interest charged $128,963 $128,388 $97,167
Interest saved N/A $575 $31,796

*Per annum, calculated half yearly, not in advance. The rate shown is an example only and is not necessarily applicable to an actual mortgage.
**Assume same interest rate for entire amortization period.
