Groups within Technology & Operations
Technology & Operations is comprised of Operations, Corporate Technology Development, Corporate Real Estate, Procurement & Strategic Sourcing and Technology & Operations Shared Services, which includes Finance and Human Resources.
Operations is the group responsible for ensuring the day-to-day successful functioning and ongoing improvement of our technologies and business processes. Within the Operations group are:
- Product Operations – Provides sales support and after-sales service to our partners in other areas of BMO Financial Group
- Enterprise Infrastructure – Provides infrastructure services such as mainframe, servers, network, desktop and security, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Business Process Improvement – Partners with other areas of BMO to achieve strategy-driven improvements to operational performance
- Central Services – Includes our Customer Care, Operational Risk Management, Business Planning and Business Strategy and Execution groups.
Corporate Technology Development brings together all aspects of systems development to create solutions that meet our customers’ needs, both now and in the future. We work closely with BMO’s lines of business to develop IT solutions that maximize the value of our technology investment across BMO while enabling our customer-facing personnel to provide increasingly superior service.
Corporate Real Estate manages strategic planning, development and the acquisition, sale, lease and facilities management of BMO’s global real estate portfolio.
Procurement and Strategic Sourcing generates significant savings through vendor negotiations and ongoing supplier management, and is accountable for the end-to-end procurement processes of the organization.
Technology & Operations Shared Services provides a range of professional services, including Finance and Human Resources, that support Technology and Operations and ensure alignment with corporate practices and processes.

Lean Six Sigma
- An integrated set of methodologies that combines two powerful tools (Lean and Six Sigma).
- A number of levels are offered, from “Yellow Belt” to “Black Belt”, as well as an Executive offering depending on the extent and nature of the participant’s involvement in Lean and Six Sigma projects.
- Program is for employees in Operations
IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
- ITIL is the most widely accepted approach to IT service management in the world, providing a comprehensive and consistent set of best practices for IT service management, and promoting a quality approach to achieving business effectiveness and efficiency in the use of information systems.
- Three levels – Essentials, Practitioners and Masters/Managers – with corresponding certifications
- Program is for employees in Operations
Requirements Management Business Analysis Accreditation
- A formal process to certify that employees have attained a particular level of expertise in the field of Requirements Management / Business Analysis.
- Standards are defined by BMO but are closely related to the international certification standards (International Institute of Business Analysis – IIBA)
Project Manager Accreditation
- Designed to support the professional development of employees engaged in a career in project management
- Four successive levels of accreditation
Quality Assurance Analyst Accreditation
- QAAA is an internal BMO program for Quality Assurance and Quality Control Professionals and for employees performing application testing and other quality related activities.
- Four designations/levels that reflect career progression, development and achievement through prescribed program stages

- Through our groups, Technology & Operations provides a wide range of technology, operations, real estate, procurement and sourcing services to BMO Financial Group. Because of this diversity in our work and our workforce, the culture of Technology & Operations varies from group to group.
- Across all of our sub-groups, however, you will find a culture that is collaborative, professional, focused, well-disciplined, process-driven and results oriented. - Formality/Informality: The level of formality varies from group to group, depending on the nature of the work.
- Hours: In most areas, general office hours are from 8:30 to 5:00, with flexibility to allow employees to meet both their work and their personal commitments. In some parts of Enterprise Infrastructure, Product Operations and Corporate Real Estate (Facilities Management), a “24/7” environment is in place and shift work is required.
- Technology & Operations Awards of Excellence is Technology & Operations’ primary program for recognizing exceptional performance by our employees. This gala event is held annually to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Technology & Operations’ success during the year. Award recipients are nominated by their managers.
- MVP Awards recognize employees who show their commitment to excellence by doing that “little bit extra” to make BMO a better place for customers and colleagues. MVPs may be awarded for behaviours related to financial performance, customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, community image or specific behaviours that promote a high-performance culture. Can be awarded by any employee to any colleague.
