Commitment to Learning

At BMO Financial Group®, our employees have access to a variety of growth opportunities. We live out this ongoing commitment to learning and development through on-the-job learning experiences, as well as through our Institute for Learning, our Tuition Refund program and our Matching Gift Program.

Institute for Learning
  • The Institute for Learning is BMO Financial Group’s corporate university. With two campuses (one in Toronto and one in Chicago), the Institute for Learning is a tangible demonstration of our commitment to learning.
  • The Institute for Learning offers a comprehensive array of learning solutions and tools enabling employees to develop knowledge and skills needed to achieve professional business goals.
  • Through the Institute for Learning we offer both classroom-based and eLearning, with a wide variety of programming to support the professional development of employees from across the organization.
Tuition Refund
  • BMO® supports employees’ educational pursuits by offering a tuition reimbursement program.
  • We recognize that formal education has value both to individual employees and to BMO through the enhanced quality of our employees’ contributions.
  • Master’s degrees and industry certifications are common examples of refundable expenses, subject to manager approval.
Matching Gift Program
  • This is a national, corporate program which matches, dollar for dollar, donations made by employees, pensioners and directors to colleges and universities of their choice in Canada, the United states and around the world, up to a yearly maximum per employee or pensioner.

Managerial Leadership Learning System
  • Designed to help managers be the best manager/leader they can be, this program combines the practicalities of daily management in balance with the forward thinking required for strong leadership. Two streams are offered depending on the individual’s prior experience with managing others.
  • The Foundations of Managerial Leadership stream spans 12 months and is designed for those who are new to the role of managing people.
  • The General Manager/Leader stream, also 12 months, is geared for those who are more seasoned managers.
Advanced Leadership Program (for senior leaders)
  • In three intensive sessions, BMO’s senior leaders share perspectives on business leadership, hone their approach to management, and engage in analysis, discussion, and debate to create innovative approaches to current business challenges.
  • Developed in collaboration with The University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, this program offers a fast-paced, demanding and provocative forum where frontline business practice meets cutting edge academic research and real time issues replace traditional case histories.
